Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Hon. Atta Akyea has been exonerated of all corruption charges and has vowed pursue his detractors.
Mr. Akyea who was the former Minister for works and housing, was dragged to the Special Prosecutor for causing financial loss to the state and alleged corruption to the tune of $49 billion.
The former Minister who turned 60years appeared shocked over what he called baseless allegation that formed the basis for the petition.
According to him, a gentleman by name Daniel Ampoanyi who petitioned the Special Prosecutor has confessed that the petition was a fabrication.
Speaking on Good evening Ghana show on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, Hon. Atta Akyea revealed that, the OSP has closed investigations into the petition as he found no basis for it.
This was contained in a half year report published by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
“In July 2022, the Office terminated investigation into a complaint of alleged financial malfeasance filed against the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South for lack of evidence. The complainant admitted that he filed the complaint without any basis and that he was paid to fabricate the content of the complaint. The complainant and his accomplices are under investigation for filing the complaint with the singular aim of tarnishing the reputation of the respondent.”
Asked if he would press charges, the Abuakwa South MP responded in the affirmative, vowed to press charged against the people behind the conspiracy to defamed him.
“Yes, I am not going to rest on this matter, the real vindication is that people should be hauled before the criminal court to answer charges.”
