The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has ordered a subsidiary of the Jospong group of companies, Zoomlion to refund over GHS 517,000 to government chest.
According to the committee, the company failed to execute a fumigation contract that was awarded to them by the government during the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
The contract that was for the fumigation of schools, markets and other public institutions in the Kintampo North Municipality in the Bono East Region, did not see light of day as Zoomlion failed to honor the obligation.
According to the public accounts committee, the company however managed to secure the total amount of GH¢517,500 without any work done. This came up at the Public Account Committee sitting when the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly Appeared before the Committee on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
The Municipal Coordinating Director, Alhaji Inusa Sayidu told the committee that his efforts to get the money to government chest has not been successful.
In what looks like a banter, while Zoomlion claimed to have carried out the fumigation exercise, report from the Environmental Officer of the assembly showed that no work has been done.
Chairman of Public Accounts Committee James Klutse Avedzi, however instructed the coordinating director to write back to Zoomlion to refund the money to government coffers.
Raising a concern, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor was disturbed about the recurring issue of various assemblies having to misplace or misfile contract documents which makes it difficult for auditors to verify when needed.
