The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had held a workshop for its communicators to take advantage of the ongoing debt crisis facing the country to make the government unpopular for its 2024 victory.
As part of the workshop, NDC MP for Bolgatanga Central and Deputy Ranking on the Finance Committee of Parliament made a presentation titled “Ghana’s Debt Crisis and the NDC’s narrative for 2024” to the party communicators.
Ghana is currently in debt distress. In the government’s quest to address the country’s ongoing economic challenges, it launched the Debt Exchange programme to invite holders of bonds to voluntarily exchange approximately GH¢137 billion domestic notes and bonds of the Republic including ESLA and Daakye for a package of new bonds.
The domestic debt exchange program since its announcement has faced huge opposition from labour groups which managed to get pension funds exempted. Other groups including the Individual Bondholders Association have also rejected the programme.
The NDC as part of its strategies is planning to exploit the Debt Crisis to win power.
The NDC workshop was held under the National Communications Bureau of the party that saw National Communications Team and all Regional Communication Officers and Deputies, at the Peduase Valley Resort on January 20 2023.
According to National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, the purpose of the workshop was to among other things, discuss the Communications Strategy of the party and equip communicators with the skills and information required for the effective discharge of their duties.
“The highly stimulating and thought-provoking discussions centered around the key planks of the National Communication Strategy and other important issues as the party prepares for the crucial 2024 Elections to rescue Ghana from the clutches of the the inept, corrupt, reckless and wasteful Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.” He wrote.
In attendance were the Former President and Flag-bearer of the NDC, H.E John Dramani Mahama, the National Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the party, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Chairman of the Communications Committee of the party, Comrade Kofi Totobi Quarkyi and the Leader of NDC’s Parliamentary group, Hon. Haruna Iddrissu.
