The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has sent out a congratulatory message to all farmers and fisherfolk in the country as Ghana marks Farmers’ day.
Dr Bawumia acknowledged the special role of farmers in feeding the country and helping to sustain the economy.
“Happy Farmers’ Day to the hard-working farmers and fisherfolk in Ghana who work from sun up to sun down to feed the country and play a critical role in sustaining the economy. Thank You to the Ghanaian Farmer!” the Vice President said.
The 2022 Farmers Day celebrations come off today, Friday, December 2nd.
The 38th edition of the National Farmers’ Day event, this year’s celebration is ongoing in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The celebrations was launched in September and began as usual with a National Agricultural Fair held from Tuesday, 29th November 2022 to Friday 2nd December 2022.
The last day of the National Agricultural Fair marking the first Friday of December is then celebrated with a Grand Durbar and Awards Ceremony where Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana will confer national honours on the best-performing farmers.
The theme for the 38th National Farmers’ Day Celebration –Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition- is instructive and an eye-opener in the wake of prevailing global challenges.
The day is being observed as a statutory holiday as announced by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery.
“The general public is hereby reminded that Friday, 2nd December 2022 which marks Farmers’ Day is a Statutory Public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” a press release signed by the minister said.
