Former President John Dramani Mahama has rubbished claims from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Bono Region, Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye DC, that he has been paid millions by the state since stepping down from office.
According to Mahama, he only receives a monthly pension from the state and nothing else, leaving him to foot all his own bills at his own expense.
Mahama listed the bills he personally pays with no help from the state including but not limited to his office rent, his medical bills, his electricity bills, fuel costs, cost of his domestic staff, air travel and others.
“I receive only my monthly pension, like President Kufuor or President Rawlings was receiving until he died. That is all I get…I pay the electricity bill for my house, for my office. I pay the water bill for my house and my office. I live in my own accommodation so the state does not pay me anything for accommodation.
“They haven’t given me an office, I rent an office in East Cantonments, I pay the rent myself, I pay for my own fuel, the state doesn’t give me fuel. I pay my own domestic staff, I pay my own medical bills. I pay my own air tickets when I travel,” he revealed.
The President’s come after Abronye claimed in an interview that Mahama has received millions from the state since leaving office in 2017.
“Let me reiterate my position that Mr. John Mahama indeed received GH¢14 million as ex gratia in 2013 which was credited into his Agricultural Development Bank Account. Since 2017, it is important to note that Mr. John Mahama has since received an end-of-service package of GH¢ 15,612,319.” Abronye alleged.
He further indicated that although the former President is on retirement, he “still receives benefits such as state-provided staff not exceeding four (4) including Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Felix Ofosu Kwakye who receive GH¢ 9,000 every month as allowances and a furnished and up-to-date office.”
