Political Science Lecturer and General Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has hinted of imminent strike action by the group.
Professor Gyampo who was reacting to the weekend’s booing of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said, labor will soon embark on a strike action.
The President was heckled at the Global Citizen Concert held at the Black Star Square in Accra.
Reacting to the incident in a tweet, Prof. Gyampo criticized the approached used by the patrons to register their displeasure, suggesting that such practice is against the Ghana culture.
“We will speak against this act of disrespect against the President and the PRESIDENCY, regardless of how angry we are, and the fact that, we would even be leading labor once again to go on strike very shortly,” Professor Gyampo wrote.
“Yes, we are hungry but we cannot eat with both hands when we find food. A few party appointees are enjoying, even in times of hardships, and are asking the rest of us to keep tightening our belt.”
UTAG earlier this year, on Monday, January 10 to be precise, declared a strike action over the conditions of service of members.
But in March, the Association called off the strike after leadership agreed on a roadmap with government to better members’ conditions.
But Prof Gyampo is giving indications that the Association may strike again.
