Public sector workers have received GHS 485 million cedis agreed with Government as Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

This payment is in fulfillment of government promise to pay 15% basic salary of all public sector workers as COLA after some public sector workers threatened do lay down that tools.

According to a statement issued by the Controller and Accountant General Department dated August 29, 2022, the Department has paid 485 million to workers.

“Pursuant to approval given by the Ministry of Finance on 1st August, 2022 following the agreement signed between Government and Organised Labour on 14th July, 2022, the Controller and Accountant- General has paid the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to workers in Public Service Institutions.”

The Trades Union Congress (TUC), appealed to government for 20% of COLA to cushion public sector workers in the prevailing hardship in the country.

A strike action which was planned was averted after government through series of engagements in July agreed on 15% as COLA which was agreed to take effect in August.
