Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei says Ghana card is a game changer for Ghana.
Professor Adei added that the Ghana Card being the only instrument required to obtain a voter’s ID card and financial transaction was a good move for Ghana.
“I think it is very clear that, coming to a point whereby the Ghana card becomes the only instrument for electoral purposes and financial transaction. It is the best that can happen to Ghana.”
Professor Adei who was speaking with Asaase News however was not enthused about how political parties berated the electoral commission when it they are in opposition.
Speaking in an interview with Asaase News, Professor Adei said it is unfortunate how the opposition party – National Democratic Congress (NDC) – undermines the integrity of the Electoral Commission.
“One of the dangers which Ghana faces is both sides of our politicians and especially when they are in opposition want to do everything to undermine the integrity of the Electoral Commission and I think it’s very unfortunate,” he said.
The Electoral Commission plans to accept only the card as the base document for voter register compilation. This has however met opposition from the National Democratic Congress, as they claim that could disenfranchise citizens without the card.
