The re-elected National Women’s Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hannah Bissiw, has called for the party to cancel its planned Presidential primary race and just acclaim ex-President John Dramani Mahama as the party’s flagbearer.
According to Bissiw, the party needs money to effectively campaign in 2024 and running an expensive primary race which will only end with an obvious victory for Mahama would be a waste of resources.
Speaking on Citi TV’s Nathan Quao at the NDC National Delegate Congress in Accra, Bissiw said: “Why should we worry ourselves and just waste resources for our candidate, whom we all know is John Mahama?”
She added: “I will implore our council of elders and they would be elected executives not to waste money at all. JM needs money for victory in 2024. The NDC needs money so why waste all those monies for a flagship race” she said.
“I will push for an online signature for the NDC to sign so we get this done. Who is going to contest JM, no one. I have heard Duffour but you and I know its JM,”
The NDC held its national delegates congress at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 17th to elect a new slate of executives.
Hannah Bissiw was among the list of incumbents who retained their seats such as National Youth Organiser George Opare Addo.
Meanwhile, new executives also took office such as the new National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the new General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavey Kwetey.
Next on the agenda for the party is its presidential primary in 2023 during which ex-President Mahama would stand to be elected as the NDC’s flagbearer for the 3rd straight election.
He is expected to be challenged by former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour, and others.
