The incumbent Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has rubbished the challenge of long-time party General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, during the party’s upcoming National Delegates Congress.
According to Ofosu-Ampofo, he is going to easily retain his position as National Chairman by defeating Asiedu-Nketia and then lead the party back to power in 2024.
“I want to assure you that I will win my re-election bid as the national chairman of the NDC. I will win it hands down and I will lead the NDC to power,” he stated.
The NDC holds their National Delegates Congress at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 17th 2022.
Ofosu-Ampofo said he’s confident of his victory because of his track record during his tenure, pointing towards the NDC’s performance in the last general elections.
He pointed towards leading the party to improve its performance from 4.8 million votes in 2016 to about 6.3 million votes in the 2020 presidential election, increasing the party’s parliamentary seats from 106 to 137 and annexing the Speaker of Parliament position for the party.
He said he had that to show for his stewardship, adding that the delegates of the party would retain him as the national chairman to lead the party to victory in the 2024 general election.
Addressing recent news alleging his campaign is working with some disgraced party members such as Koku Anyidoho and Allotey Jacobs, Ofosu-Ampofo once again described the claims as propaganda.
“Those who want to divide our ranks shall not succeed as we will remain united to our common goal of winning power and bringing Ghana back on the path of growth and prosperity for all,” he stated.
Adding that: “I will continue to build bridges and not walls.”, Ofosu-Ampofo called for the party to remain united and not take actions that can sow divisions before the 2024 elections.
