A political marriage between relatives of key members of the two major political parties in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took place over the weekend.
Kwaw Blay, the son of the former National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, got married to one Jasmine, a niece of the former NDC Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Betty Mould Iddrisu.
Gina Blay, mother of the groom and another NPP bigwig, shared photos from the ceremony on social media.
She captioned the photos: “And they shall become One! Kwaw&Jasmine Blay🍾🥰”
Friends, family and members of both political parties attended the beautiful ceremony.

Despite all the acrimony they display publicly, it is common knowledge that many top officers of the NDC and NPP remain great friends behind the scenes and as can be seen here, are not even averse to marrying each other.
The most recent example of such a wedding was the marriage of Chief Biney and Afia Akoto.
In April 2021, Chief Biney, Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, married his sweetheart, Afia Akoto the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Micro Finance and Loans Centre (MASLOC) and a leading New Patriotic Party member.
Biney is quoted to have stated that he is in a political position to serve for a number of years and then leave for others to come and take over but he is in his marriage forever and therefore will always go home to his wife..
“OB anyday I will go home. Now if you become a President don’t you have a period you serve? You should think, people should be wise and let’s understand that at the end of the day, the power we look for is to serve and when you serve your people within a period you’ll not be there,” he said on Accra-based Asempa FM.
