The Managing Director of State Transport Company (STC), Nana AKomea has suggested to authority to permanently take over the Weija Gbawe lands and compensate owners.
According to him, relocating the resident will be the only solution to the perennial flooding causing loss or lives and properties whenever the Weija Dam is spilled.
While acknowledging the harm that has been caused to the resident in this year’s spillage, the Managing director was of the view a permanent solution is needed to avert any future occurrence.
“The harm is already done. I suggest that the people should be given compensation and ejected from the area . . . or we can relocate them by giving them some of the two-bedroom houses built by the State Housing Company as a form of compensation to them,” he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.
He noted that, going forward, the authorities at Weija Gbawe; with specific mention of the District and Municipal Chief Executives should execute their duties effectively ensuring no person builds at unauthorized places.
