The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has ordered the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to pay damages to customers who were affected in almost a week long system failure.
ECG for a week could not vend power to customers dues to challenges which has now been resolved.
The system failure affected thousands of Ghanaian who could not pay or access electricity and slept in darkness.
While some customers have complained about losing some perishable foods, others complain of lost working hours.
In a letter dated October 4, 2022, the PURC ordered that the Electricity Company compensate such persons in compliance with the laws of the country.
However, the PURC did not state clearly how those affected by the inability to purchase electricity credits should be compensated.
