Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications Committee of Parliament Samuel George has alleged that the recent technical breaches in ECG’s prepaid metering system was orchestrated by what he described as a criminal cabal within the company.
For almost one week, ECG’s prepaid metering system was done in almost all its operational regions in the country. As a result, consumers could not recharge when their meters run out of credit.
The situation left thousands of people having to sleep in darkness whiles some businesses had to shut with others having to rely on generators.
Sources close to the company say their system have been compromised by external people who had access to the system codes and refused to release them to the ECG.
However in a facebook post, Sam George dismissed that assertion and insisted that it was people within ECG who attacked the system.
According to Sam George, these cabals have been siphoning about 200 million cedis every month out of the ECG accounts, which the new Managing Director wants to investigate. He believes it is out of fear of being exposed and also to frustrate the MD and cause disaffection for him that these people ganged up to attack the system.

The challenges with the ECG are extremely serious. The attack on their system was not external but carried out by a cabal of ‘criminals’ within the very same organisation.
The government MUST as a matter of urgency commence a forensic investigation of the IT department of ECG.
My information points to a group that has been siphoning over GH200 million every month! Yes you read that right.
What we are witnessing is internal power play to cripple the new MD who has dared to open an investigation into these matters. The State security apparatus MUST with alacrity take this matter up and ensure the safety and protection of the MD and his team seeking to uncover the mess.
The rot at ECG would make you sick if you truly love this Country and it is not about politicians here. It is Ghanaian citizens taking advantage of the citizens. We demand swift and immediate action!
