New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician Hopeson Adorye claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) organised the booing of President Akufo-Addo at the recent Global Citizens Festival.
Adorye, speaking during an interview on Okay Fm, named three individuals involved in the plot – publisher Larry Dogbe, 3Music Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdulai Sadiq Abu and one Suhuyini.
He claimed the three organised 75 young men from Fadama and paid them Ghc 120 each to boo the President when he appeared to deliver his remarks at the event.
“Per the information I had, it was the Trade or the Tourism Minister who was supposed to be at the festival to address the attendees. But the fact that the president attended one in South Africa and requested that if it comes to Ghana, he will be happy. It was going to Nigeria.
“One of the two ministers was supposed to come because of President Akufo-Addo’s UN engagement. But fortunately, the president was able to arrive before the day of the event,” Adorye began his remarks.
He continued; “They had conversations with him and it was agreed that he will come. Because Sadiq of 3 Music Awards is an industry player and has a connection with the lead organizers, when he heard it, he and Larry Dogbe and Suhuyini met at a particular place to plan.
“They contracted 75 boys from Fadama and paid each one of them GH¢120. The videos trending is testament to it. It was from one particular shot,”
His comments follow the much-discussed booing of President Nana Akufo-Addo at last weekend’s Global Citizen Festival.
The heckling of a section of the crowd has sparked intense debate, with the NDC calling it a rejection of the Akufo-Addo administration whilst government and its supporters insist it was an NDC ploy.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, insists he was at the event and he heard no boos and that the video shared online was a carefully orchestrated plan by the opposition.
