Political commentator Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has attacked NPP communicators claiming that those who booed the President during the Global Citizen Festival were being disrespectful.
A Plus dug up an old video of former President Mahama being embarrassed by NPP supporters during a foreign trip to London.
In the video, a massed crowd chanted ‘Mahama is a thief’ at the Ex-President in the English capital of London.
According to A Plus, that was more disrespectful than anything chanted at Akufo-Addo yet the same people happy when that happened are now ‘clutching their pearls’ over some polite heckling of the President.
In a post on social media, A Plus wondered whether ‘Away Away’ is more disrespectful than ‘Mahama is a thief’.
He wrote: “Some few years ago it was ok for Ghanaians to do this to the president of Ghana when he visited London. All too soon, some of those who were excited about this are angry that @nakufoaddo was booed. “Mahama is a thief” and “away” which one is more disrespectful? Not everyone has short memory. Those who booed Akufo Addo did it with some level of respect. They deserve to be applauded.”
NDC Orchestrated Booing of Akufo-Addo
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of sponsoring the heckling of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the 2022 Global Citizen Festival in Accra on Saturday.
Mr Akufo-Addo during the event delivered a keynote address amidst jeering from the crowd.
He spoke about the government of Ghana’s involvement in eradicating poverty and upholding national unity.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I extend a hearty Akwaaba, our word of welcome, from a very hospitable people. To all of you, who have come from afar and wide, to our vibrant city of Accra, Ghana’s capital, to join us on this great occasion,” the President said at the event amidst the heckling.
The NPP went all out in a statement signed by Deputy Communications Director, Ernest Owusu Bempah, in which it accused the NDC of orchestrating the booing, calling it ‘pure evil’.
“…To allow politics to take centre stage at such an event and single out the President unfairly for political point scoring raises serious concerns.
“To put it more bluntly, it is pure evil and utter disgrace for the NDC to organize its supporters to go and shout down the President in the manner it happened.
“As a matter of fact, the mean-spirited treatment of President Akufo-Addo, the fact that the president’s appearance prompted loud and sustained boos and jeers from partisan NDC crowd at the global citizen event crossed some bright line,” the statement said.
