President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, have made their way to London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to be present at the Queen’s final funeral rites held later today, Monday, September 19th 2022.
Akufo-Addo left Accra Sunday for the service, although no official communication has been released on the trip so far.
The President was officially confirmed as one of the leaders of the commonwealth invited to the ceremony, and he had indicated his readiness to travel for the event after signing Queen Elizabeth’s book of condolence at the British High Commission in Accra.
“I intend to go to London for the funeral…let me take the opportunity to also wish the King the best of luck with his tenure. He has been here with us a few occasions, he is a good friend and I am confident that he will do a very good job in her succession,” he said.
Meanwhile, a royal correspondent revealed King Charles III held numerous conversations with Heads of State and leaders Saturday night, including Nana Akufo-Addo and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Asantehene Unable to Attend Funeral
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will not be attending the funeral of the late British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the latest reports, the Asantehene has communicated his inability to attend the funeral to King Charles III.
“His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will not be able to attend the events marking the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Official communication sent to His Majesty’s Household and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on September 15, 2022.” a tweet from the Asante Nation on Twitter, which shared the news, read.
